Peter James Pappas, 73, of Crosby and formerly of Duluth,Peter died unexpectedly on Dec. 29, 2006. He was born Jan. 4, 1933 in Duluth, Minn. to James and Mary (Apostolakos) Pappas. He served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Burlington Northern in both Duluth and Brainerd from 1968 until his retirement in 1987. Peter married Pat Hoffman on Feb. 22, 1986, and they lived in Brainerd and later Crosslake. Peter enjoyed golf and bowling. He liked hunting and fishing, spending many hours on or near the water. Above all, Peter loved his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his daughter, Cheryle Lynn Pappas. He is survived by his first wife, Shirley Ann (Deb) Pease, and their children together, daughter, Cindy (Jack) Mulek of Duluth; son, Greg Pappas of Union, Kentucky; Grandson Jason Mulek, Duluth; Granddaughter Michelle (Zach) Carl, and three Great-Grandchildren, Tristan, Grant and Samantha Carl; Four brothers, Gust, John, Nick and Christ; four sisters, Kiki, Teddi, Cathy and Urania; Four stepchildren, Kathy (Dave) Boser, Cindy (Bruce) Austin, Kevin Hoffman and Kim (David) Leaf; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. MEMORIAL SERVICE1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4 in the Jarvi Dowd Funeral Home in Duluth with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
