OBITUARY
Eugene S. 'Gene' Boss, 93, of Brule, died Friday, Nov. 4, 2016, at Golden Living Center in Superior. He was born in Superior on March 6, 1923, the son of Mertin and Marie [Should be Alice] 'Mabel' Boss.

Gene married Avis Marie Carlson May 16, 1947.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theatre with the 3rd Infantry Divison as a S/SGT in a machine gun section. He served in North Africa, France, Germany and Austria. He received several decorations including the Combat Infantry Badge, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars.

Gene was a Superior Police Officer for 20 years, having retired in 1978.
He retired to Deming, New Mexico in 1986, both Gene and Avis were active in the museum and their church, where Gene was an elder and financial secretary for many years. Avis died in 2002.

He is preceded by his wife; parents; daughter, Margaret Jean Dietrich; grandson, Shawn Dietrich; siblings, Sid and Merilyn.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Marion Gail (Steve) Rydberg; grandsons, Kevin (Andrea) Dietrich, Jeremy (Carrie) Rydberg, and Christopher (Sara) Rydberg; great-grandchildren, Anna, William, Lilly, Grace and Henry Dietrich, and Shawn and Lilly Rydberg.

Visitation: one hour prior to the 11:30 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th St. and Ogden Ave. Rev. Ron Becklund will officiate. Superior Police Department Honor Guard will be in attendance.
