Banker. A life-long parishioner of St. Philip's Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry. He was educated at Durham High School and the University of North Carolina. A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country in S. Korea during the Korean Conflict. He retired in 1996 from Central Carolina Bank after a 30-year career. At the time of his death, he was serving as chairman of the Board of Lions Club Industries and on the Board of Senior Pharm Assist. He was past president of Tobaccoland Kiwanis Club, United Way of Durham, and Hope Valley Country Club. He was a founding member of the Arthritis Foundation golf tournament. He was also Finance Chairman of the Red Cross; served on the Board of the Durham Symphony; was a Board member of the Durham Nursery School Assn.; past chairman of the Industry Visitation Committee, Durham Chamber of Commerce; Board member of the Greater Durham Community Foundation; and on the Board of Visitors of North Carolina Central University.
