Nettie Ray was living in Galveston Texas with her first husband Edward Payson Pomeroy when her son William Randall Pomeroy was born. Edward Pomeroy remarried in 1891 to Anna Kresta, the year after Nettie and Irving married in Washington St, so it's unclear if they possibly met in Texas on another carpentry job, or in Washington.

The Texas Senate resolution for John Edward Pomeroy, Edward's 7th and last child, states Edward Payson Pomeroy "moved [in 1882] from New York to Texas where he settled with his family in Galveston".

This family would be Nettie Ray Randall, perhaps an infant that did not survive, and perhaps some of his other children by Julia Laurania Parsons and Grace Wellman Boyle, as William Randall Pomeroy was not born until 1883 in Galveston and John Edward not until 1889 in Galveston. William Pomeroy was raised by Irving Comstock and Nettie Ray in Washington state.
