Ervin Christian Orser was born on July 6, 1924, to William Everett Orser and Edith Jane Young Orser.

On June 26, 1944, he married Elizabeth Ann "Betty Ann" Colby at her parents' home in Ossining, New York.

Ensign Ervin Christian Orser was a pilot in the US Navy Air Corps. On March 10, 1945, his plane was on an authorized long-range navigational training flight in the vicinity of the Bahamas Islands. The last communication was when the plane was 15 miles north of the west tip of Grand Bahama Island. The plane and crew of 14 were never found.
