Long time Alaska resident, Marvin E. Brink, 93, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2016 surrounded by family in Anchorage, AK.
Marvin was born July 20, 1923 in Harrison, SD and was the fifth of ten children born to Harm and Henrietta Brink.
Marvin enlisted in the Army in 1943 to serve during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was discharged in 1945.
He met and married Zona Gail Hamann in 1949.
They moved to Alaska after their marriage and homesteaded on Muldoon Road in Anchorage. They eventually moved to South Anchorage in 1956 where they raised five children of their own.
Marvin worked at Gilman's Bakery, Sunrise Bakery and retired from Matanuska Maid Dairy in 1985. He was a Union member and continued to pay monthly Teamster dues until his death to show his appreciation for the life he could offer his family through the benefits that the Teamsters made available.
Marvin loved Alaska and everything that it provided for his family. Moose hunting was his annual vacation and what he looked forward to each year with great anticipation to bond with family and friends and supply food for the year. He loved spending time with his family and was happiest when they would all get together for BBQ's at their home in Peter's Creek.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Zona Gail, his five children Linda (Craig), Larry (Pam), Lorraine, Lucille, and Lyle, eight grandchildren, Cyndi, Alison (Don), Justin (Rachel), Cameron, Colt, Joe, Christine, and Taylor, as well as seven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his youngest brother Lee (June), his sister-in-law Joyce, and many nieces and nephews.
The family is following Marvin's final wishes not to have a formal service. In lieu of flowers please donate to the charity of your choice in memory of Marvin.
