HOWARD LANG March 16, 1926 - May 28, 2014.

Howard Lang, of Mercer Island, Wash., was born March 16, 1926, in Seattle, the second child of Anthony and Ruth (nee Meehan) Lang; and loving brother to Virginia McAllister. Howard attended St. George and Seattle Prep. He went to the University of Washington on an athletic scholarship prior to serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. After his military service, he graduated from Seattle University, where he played basketball and earned a degree in business. Howard assumed leadership of the family business, FS Lang Manufacturing, located in the Seattle area. For over 50 years, he was an innovative leader who was greatly respected in the community. The love of his life was his wife, of 60 years, Mary Regan. Howard and Mary were married in 1948. They made their home on Mercer Island, where they raised their five children, Daniel, Michael, Sheila, Molli and Patrick. While raising his children and expanding the family business, Howard still found time to coach Mercer Island baseball during the 1960's, including Little League, Babe Ruth, and Connie Mack. His enjoyment of sports spanned his lifetime as evidenced by his passion for golf and his avid support of the Mariners, Seahawks, and Huskies. Howard was a man's man. He had a great sense of humor and was called "Howie Babe" by his friends. He was greatly respected and known as a fair and just man who exemplified personal and professional integrity. Business colleagues, friends, and family sought his wise counsel and advice. He was an influential man who made a difference in the lives of many people. Howard invested in friendships that lasted across time and distance. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Mary in 2009. He is survived by his five children, Daniel, Michael, Sheila, Molli and Patrick; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his long-time house manager, Yolanda; and his loyal dog, Angel. Services were private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Braille Institute of the Desert, 70251 Ramon Road, Rancho Mirage, CA 92270, (760) 321-1111.
