Born Leo Rom, the son of William and Katherine (Schenk) Rom of Cincinnati, Ohio, Rev. Father Agnellus Rom, O.F.M., entered the Order of Friars Minor in 1930, and was ordained a Catholic priest of the St. John the Baptist Province on June 11, 1938. He served the Navajo people of the Arizona Missions for three years. He was stationed at St. Michaels, and he often traveled many miles to minister to the remote communities throughout the region. Father Agnellus died accidentally at age 31 when his car broke down near Greasewood, Arizona. He was fatally injured after his car slipped off the jack while he was attempting to make repairs. His uncle Joseph Rom was also a Franciscan priest who had been given the religious name Agnellus.
