The death date inscribed on the grave ledger (17 MAY 1879) is incorrect -- no idea where it came from, but it was not put there until 1911. Local newspaper notice shows the funeral service of Charlie Corinne was to be conducted on Tuesday, 13 SEP 1870 at the residence of the parents, Charles F. & Jane V. DIXON, on Forsyth Street between St. Clair and Crawford streets (now Fourth Avenue, between Eleventh and Tenth streets). The sexton's record of burial confirms that this child was buried on 13 SEP 1870.

Reported age at time of death was 17 months (burial record) or 18 months (grave inscription); since the burial record was made at the time of the death, whereas the inscription was not made until 1911, 17 months is more likely to be accurate. So evidently born about FEB 1869. Child of Charles F. & Jennie Victoria (HODGE) DIXON, who married 24 JUL 1867 in Muscogee County, Georgia.

Mary Jane Galer's list of persons interred in the New Cemetery area of Linwood shows: child of C. F. DIXON died aged 17 months; buried 13 SEP 1870 in Section C, Lot 316. [Galer's source was the sexton's card file (an index). The original burial record also mentions that this child was born in Georgia, died of congestive chills, and was buried as a resident of Columbus, Georgia (so probably was born and died there). The sexton was James LYNAH.]

Dolores Autry's "Historic Linwood Cemetery" book, Volume 3, shows Jennie on a single "slab" [= ledger] grave marker with Charles F. DIXON (died 07 ? APR 1888, aged 51 years -- however, burial record and newspaper funeral notices report he was buried 05 APR 1888) & Jennie V. DIXON (died 06 DEC 1909, not 1910 as per grave monument inscription).

An entry in the sexton's ledger book shows on 11 FEB 1911 that the remains of C. F. [sic] DIXON and child were disinterred and reinterred in the same grave in the southeast part of Lot 317 of Section C. On the same day, the remains of Mrs. J. V. DIXON were disinterred and reinterred, also in the southeast part of Lot 317 of Section C. The child is Charlie Corine DIXON.
