Elizabeth Garland West, born June 25, 1928, passed away Jan. 2, 2007, at age 78. Mrs. West, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, was predeceased in 1996 by her devoted husband, Berlyn Grant West Sr. after 53 years of marriage. She embraced caring for home and family with compassion and energy and, in return, earned the love and admiration of all who knew her. She was an active member of Bow Creek Presbyterian Church. Mrs. West is survived by one son, Berlyn Grant West Jr.; three daughters, Linda VanRysdam, Carol Adams and Elizabeth Ann Allen; three sisters, and one brother, Virginia Moore, Claudine Whitehead, Dorothy Bisgrove and Ellwood Garland; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at Bow Creek Presbyterian Church, 315 S. Rosemont Road, Virginia Beach, at 2 p.m. Friday with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, donations to Plaza Volunteer Rescue Squad, EMS Admin., attn: Carrie, 1917 Arctic Ave., Virginia Beach, VA 23451, would be most appreciated.
