Louis was born on Sept. 21, 1936, in Tryon, NC to Marvin DeLafayette Edwards (1897–1965) and Virginia Sherfy Edwards (1902–1991).)
Graduated from Tryon High School where he was the school's first representative to NC Boys' State; received an Associate's Degree from Lees-McRae College, a Bachelor of Arts from Pfeiffer University, and a Master of Social Work from the University of Kansas.
A Certified Master Social Worker for 33 years; thirty years were spent within Veterans' Administration Hospitals where he served as Chief of Social Services for 22 years in Knoxville, IA, and Murfreesboro, TN.
Over the years, he was active in Kiwanis, SAR, SCV, Lions, and Toastmasters and served as a Presbyterian Elder.
Survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Edwards; daughter, Cecelia (Allen) Colburn; son, Bryan Edwards (Angela); three grandchildren; and brothers, Marvin DeLafayette Edwards (1925–2015) and wife Polly, Herbert A. Edwards (1931–2017) and wife Lorraine, and Harold Edwards (Harriette).
Also predeceased by a brother, Marion Edwards.
Visitation was held from 3:00 - 4:00 pm, Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at Parkway Presbyterian.
Funeral services followed at 4 pm.
Memorials could be made to Parkway Presbyterian Church, Panama City, FL.
