Douglas Keith Kinsey-Millbrook, NY The honorable Douglas Keith Kinsey passed away at home on June 1, 2011. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on December 9, 1923. Doug is survived by Constance, his wife of 64 years; his children Douglas Kinsey, Catherine Kinsey, Deborah Sangalang, Robert Kinsey, and Donald Kinsey; his grandchildren Douglas Kinsey, Andrew Kinsey, Alexander Kinsey, Nicholas Kinsey, Parker Kinsey, and Kayla Kinsey; and his great granddaughters, Ava Tullar and Clementine Kinsey. Douglas served as a Lt. in the U.S. Navy during World War II commanding LST 943 in the Pacific Theater. His ship landed tanks, troops, and ammunition on the beachheads at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He was proud that his ship was unloading at Iwo Jima under fire when they witnessed the raising of the American flag on Mount Suribachi. After the surrender of Japan, Dougs ship was one of the first to be part of the occupation forces. Doug completed his BA from UCLA after the war and then received a JD from UC Berkeley. Over the course of his work life he served various functions at UCLA, Johns Hopkins, Washington State University, University of Miami and Whittier College. He also spent three years as a Commissioner of the General Services Administration as a Nixon appointee confirmed by Congress. After he retired, Doug and his wife moved to Millbrook, NY, where they have lived for nearly 25 years. Doug was an active member of Millbrook Rotary and Grace Episcopal Church. Doug and his family are grateful for the exceptional care provided to him during the final 18 months of his life by Hospice, Inc. especially Julie Eads and John Cassavant- just two of the many wonderful people who cared for him. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, and his ashes will be interred in the churchs memorial garden. Doug will always be remembered for his love of his family, church and country as well as a hearty sense of humor. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations go to Grace Episcopal Church or the Millbrook Rotary Foundation as Doug and Connie felt strongly about the Rotarys Shelter Box Disaster Victims program and their beloved parish. Arrangements are under the direction of Allen Funeral Home Millbrook, NY.
