1925-2016
Marie Madsen Glade passed away peacefully, early in the morning on November 19, 2016 at the age of 91. She was dearly loved by her family and friends and she will be deeply missed. Marie was born in Salt Lake City on November 1, 1925, a daughter of Harry W. Madsen and Edith A. Madsen. She attended East High School where she sang in the a cappella choir and the school operetta and participated in many other groups and clubs. Following school she worked for several years at Prudential Insurance Company. She married George B. Glade Jr. on June 14, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple, which marriage began a 68-year adventure of devotion and love. They lived arm-in-arm.
Marie filled her life and the lives of others with music. She played the piano on numerous occasions and uplifted many at church services, funerals and weddings with a beautiful soprano voice. She wrote recently that although her singing voice may have faded in her later life, she "always has a song in her heart."
Marie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and her life and her devotions to her family and others reflected her deep commitment to Jesus Christ and to His Gospel. She served in many Church positions, including service as a member of the Primary General Board, with an assignment for many years on the music committee. That assignment combined her love for children and for music, and included opportunities to conduct children's choirs in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. Her Church service spanned decades including her calling as the ward primary chorister until her "retirement" at 80.
Above all, her life's commitment was to George and her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who she loved very much. Her home and heart were always open to her family. She had a bright spirit and a soft listening ear. Marie loved holidays and decorating for holidays. She loved to knit, read and travel; she loved old Westerns; and she felt genuine delight with the events happening in the lives of family members. Her mind and her interest in others remained clear and focused to the end.
Marie is survived by her husband, George, and their children Larry (Patty), Julie Green (Ken), Susan Taylor (Scott), Kevin (Holly), Linda Layton, and Corey (Ruth Ann), together with 26 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents and her dear siblings, Agnes Clawson, Albert Madsen, and Lucy Madsen.
Funeral services for Marie will be held on Monday November 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Olympus 1st Ward chapel at 4100 South Camille Street (2480 East), Holladay, Utah. A viewing will be held at the chapel on Sunday November 27, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and then again on the morning of the service from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
