Leonard J. Corti, 90, of LaSalle, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at the Illinois Veterans Home in LaSalle surrounded by his family and caring nurses.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016 at St. Patrick's Church in LaSalle with Rev. Jacob Valle, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent's Cemetery in LaSalle with full military rites conducted by the LaSalle-Oglesby Veteran's Memorial Group. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Saturday morning at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mueller-Pagani Funeral Home in LaSalle.

Mr. Corti was born on June 19, 1926 ,in LaSalle to Angelo and Lena (Berta) Corti. He married Paula Catherine McBride on August 21, 1948, in St. Patrick's Church in LaSalle. Leonard served in the Navy during WWII as a Radio Man 2nd class and later served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Lt. Staff Officer, Air Material Command. Leonard earned the WWII Victory Medal, China Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal. He graduated from Bradley University earning his B.S. in Business Administration and a Master's Degree in Economics. Leonard graduated Cum Laude, received the Wall Street Journal Award as an outstanding student in economics, was recognized as a distinguished ROTC military student and was a member of the Bradley Federation of Scholars.

He was a member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in LaSalle, LaSalle Rotary club, VFW, American Legion, American Association for the Advancement of Science, Royal Economic Society, American Economic Association, National Association of Accountants, "Old Crow" (Electronic Warfare), Air Force Association, and the University Club, Washington, D.C.

Leonard held various executive positions throughout his career beginning with CBS in New York. During the late 1950's through the 1960's he worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation as a Subcontract Manager in support of a $600 million Satellite Program. He furthered his work with satellite reconnaissance systems as Director of Administration and Controller for ITEK Corporation working with the highest level of security clearance granted to individuals working on classified projects. He also served as President of Radiation Counter Laboratories, Vice President of Planning with Litton Industries' navigation programs, and Group Vice President for Electronic Specialty, an electronic military systems company.
He served as President of International Technical Graphics, a division of Times Mirror and then Director of Finance, Ingalls Shipbuilding. He then developed a management consultant business focusing on manufacturing plant turnarounds and conducted technological and economic forecasting of robotic applications in the Unites States.

All of this experience led him back to the Illinois Valley where he served as the area's Economic Development Director for the Illinois Valley Area Chamber of Commerce from 1983-1993. During his tenure he was appointed by Governor Thompson to the Build Illinois Program. At IVAC he was instrumental in establishing the Walter Duncan Airport in Peru, leading the Missing 51 campaign into completion of I-39 and the Abraham Lincoln Bridge. Along with bringing Gailey Eye Clinic and MetoKote to the area, he also led trips to Japan and South Korea with area officials for the recruitment of businesses such as Unytite and Eakas.

He is survived by his wife, Paula; two daughters, Cathy (Jerry) Bernabei of Tonica and Lynn (Greg) Sheedy of Peru; 5 grandchildren, Matthew, Jason and Justin Grubar and Ryan and Brendan ( Sierra Willis) Sheedy; one brother, Raymond (Carol) Corti of Appleton,WI and one sister, Lorraine Weiden of Oglesby.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Mark Michael Corti; his brother Ralph and his sister, Anita Pope.

Pallbearers will be Matthew, Jason and Justin Grubar, Brendan Sheedy, Paul Weiden and Mike Nelson. Honorary pallbearers are
Joe Hogan, Jack Wayland, Frank Taylor, and his nurses from the VA Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established.
