He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and worked for Harverty's Farm and City Service north of Nebraska City.
He served in the Air Force from 1961 - 1964 and was a disabled veteran. He was a member of Western Start Lodge 2, A.F. & A.M., R.O.E., Aerie 968, all of Nebraska City; American Legion Post 235 of Union; Union Volunteer Fire Department in Union; former member of Nehawka Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Nehawka Town Board. He is survived by his daughter Dustin Adair Abbott; son Mathew Lee Abbott; sister Wanda Barrett; brother Tom and wife Mary Lou Abbott, Darold and wife Janice Abbott; sister Elinor Vernus and her husband Ray Abbott; fiancee Judy Attebery. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and four brothers.
Burial in West Union Cemetery. Military graveside rites was by American Legion Post 235 of Union.
