Gertrude De Yong was born April 15, 1914 at Somers, Montana. She grew to womanhood in Flathead County and became a member of the Presbyterian Church.
In the year 1937 she was united in marriage to Donald Rice. Since that time they have made their home in several places in the west where their work required them to be.
Mrs. Rice became ill in October of last year and passed away February 4, 1945 in Portland, Oregon. She was 31 years of age.
She is survived by her husband, Donald Rice of Portland, an infant son, Donald Steven, five months of age, her mother, Mrs. Bessie de Yong, six brothers, Pete of Dammond, Indiana, Max of Fairfield, Montana, William and George of Cotton, California, John and Henry of Kalispell and four sisters, Mrs. Elsie Bergstrom of Portland, Oregon, Mrs. Russell Whitefield of Libby, Montana, Mrs. Leonard Dunegan of Whitefish, Montana, and Mrs. Adolph Pederson of Creston, Montana and other relatives.
