OBITUARY: Kay Williams French (Burritt):
Our beloved mother and grandmother Kay French, 89, shed her earthly bonds on June 8, 2015 in Kennewick, WA. She was born on August 31, 1925 in Miami, FL to Rebecca Harvey Knight and Kenneth Boyd Burritt.

She graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1942 and attended the University of Miami, pledging Kappa Kappa Gamma. The center of Kay’s life was like a 5-pointed star, including family life, faith, history and heritage, the arts, and community service.

On November 8, 1946 Kay married James N. French in Miami Beach. Two years later they moved to Kennewick where they began raising their family.

Kay had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and experience other cultures. Kay and Jim were members of the Tri-City Country Club where they enjoyed dinner and dancing most Saturday nights. Kay also enjoyed snow skiing, fishing, golfing, gardening and was a member of bridge clubs.

As a member of Kennewick First Presbyterian Church she devoted considerable time in the library, joining Pacific Northwest Association of Church Libraries. Through church affiliation, Kay also contributed to the education of children in India. Always an avid reader she tutored seven years for Team Read, helping to strengthen the reading skills of students at Amistad and Hawthorne Elementary Schools.

Active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Kay served as Regent or Vice Regent in the Kennewick Chapter for 10 terms between 1976 and 2006. She proudly received her 50-year DAR membership pin in 2014. Kay took a great interest in history, enjoying programs at the East Benton County Historical Society on local lore. Kay was a prolific artist and member of the Beaux Arts, Allied Arts and Eastern Washington Watercolor Society.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jim; son, Kenneth and grandson, Ian French.

She is survived by her daughters Stephanie (Emile) Ninaud of Lake Forest Park, WA; Shelley Palmer of Orlando, FL; Rebecca (George) Watt of Shoreline, WA and daughter-in-law, Shanna French of Pasco, WA.
