Peter Gary Jr. (Geary) was born in Croton, NJ. His year of birth (1751) was sourced from New Jersey, Births and Christenings Index, 1660-1931 ( spelled as Peter Gary). Peter was a rakemaker and appeared on the tax list in 1784, Hunterdon County, N.J. and 1830 US Federal Census, in Amwell.

Peter married to Mary Anne Pegg. Date of marriage: Feb 15, 1781. Source: Hunterdon County NJ Marriages, which stated: Geary *eter (sic) and Pegg Ann, Armwell. Marriage by Rev. William Frazier, Three Parishes. St. Thomas Church of Alexandria township, Hunterdon, N.J.

Mary Anne's vital records are not sourced, Other Ancestry members have suggested that her vitals were: DOB: March 19, 1760 and DOD: May 22, 1815. At this time, no memorial has been created for Mary Ann.

The records of the Gary family shows that it was founded in America by four brothers who came from Scotland and settled, one in Maryland, another in South Carolina, the third in Georgia, and Peter (our subject's ancestor) near Croton, in New Jersey.
Among the other pioneer settlers known for their integrity of character and energy of disposition.  Peter Gary, Jr, a son of the original pioneer, spent his entire life in the neighborhood of Croton, where he was known as the rake maker. His son, Mahlon, was born near Croton. (born 1791).

DIED on Saturday 23 of dysentery, at the residence near the Boar's Head in Amwell. Mr. Peter Gary, in the 83rd year of his age. He was long known and esteemed as an honest man, an industrious and upright citizen, a kind neighbor and friend. He has left many friends and relatives to mourn his loss. Hunterdon Gazette No. 90, Wed Aug 27 1834.

Note: Peter S. Geary, an American Revolution Soldier (Not this Peter), served as a fifer with the rank of sergeant in the 4th Regiment of Artillery, Pennsylvania Line. He lived in Somerset, PA. His family lineage can be found at http://www.family-genealogy-online.com/Geary/peter.htm.
