Son of Edmund Tucker Kidd and Elizabeth Jane (Craig) Kidd. Husband of Mary Nylee (Lucas) Kidd (Sep 1878 - ?), married about 1896 (according to 1900 census). Grandson of Hudson Pleasant Kidd (1785 - 1843) and Lucy (Wright) Kidd (1788 - 1869) of Amherst and Nelson County, Virginia.

Robert left his Virginia home when he was 14 years old to work on the railroad in Georgia for 10 years. Then he went north to work on the B. R. & P [Buffalo, Rochester & Pittsburgh] Railroad in Bradford, Pennsylvania and Salamanca, New York. He later opened a grocery store, which continued to be run by his son after his death. At the time of his death, Robert was survived by two daughters: Ina M. (Kidd) Gifford (wife of Glenn Coteral Gifford) of Bradford, PA; Roberta L. (Kidd) Fisher (wife of Marion Fisher) of Salamanca, NY; a son: Robert Nelson Kidd, Jr. at home; two brothers: James Alexander Kidd of Russell, KY and John Edward Kidd of Lynchburg, VA; one sister: Lorena Blanche (Kidd) Goodwin (widow of Samuel Goodwin) of St. Petersburg, Fl; several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services were held at his home with burial at the Wildwood cemetery, Salamanca, NY.
