When George returned to the United States, he was sent aboard a Merchant ship that was to be scuttled after it arrived here. He said they sailed North from Germany through iceberg water and you could feel the bergs rubbing against the steel hull as they passed ice bergs. George and another soldier volunteered for KP duty so they could work in the galley preparing food so they could eat the same food the officers were eating. On this trip , someone went through George's duffle bag and stole some German made cameras, a German belt buckle with a swastika that actually shot a 22 cal bullet by a cord that went from buckle to your wrist. George had told Mary that he remembered the time when we lived in the old garage while Dad built the new house in New Plymouth.

George wished to be cremated and his ashes spread on Bald Mountain in Boise National Forest . When he passed away October 25,2013 at 9:40 am George's wife Mary called and I (Harold Balter) got to say my last goodbye to George and I told him I love him . Mary called me later and said he was gone and he would be taken to Payette where he would be cremated and she will take his ashes to Bald Mountain when she can get there as it is covered with snow right now. She said George had been cold and then hot all night. She said he may have been on Bald Mountain then. The very next time I turned on my computer , George's picture was every folder on my computer ? coincident ? I think Not !!

George was a great brother and he will always be missed by me as long as I live.
