Former Staten Islander Ruth Sasae Ragucci, 83, a retired chief of housekeeping and a homemaker who enjoyed cooking for her family, died Friday at her home in Brandon, Fla.
Born Ruth Kikugawa in Kauai, Hawaii, she grew up and was educated there.
She moved to Manhattan in 1952, when she was 20 years old, and two years later moved to Tompkinsville. She also lived in South Beach and Port Richmond before settling in Westerleigh.
In 1992, Mrs. Ragucci relocated to Las Vegas, and in 2005 to Manchester, N.J., but she returned to the Island in 2010, moving to Eltingville. She had lived in Florida for a year.
She was the chief of housekeeping at the former Willowbrook State School for 22 years, and retired in 1988.
Mrs. Ragucci was fond of gardening and cooking, especially for her family. She was a loyal New York Yankees fan, and also enjoyed visits to Atlantic City and Las Vegas.
"Our mother was devoted to her family She brought comfort and strength to all who were blessed to know her. She will be missed," her family said.
Mrs. Ragucci's husband of 55 years, Anthony J., died in 2011.
Surviving are her sons, Gene, Ronald, Anthony C. and Joseph; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren
