HENRY FORD LANGFORD Henry Ford Langford (lovingly known as Hank) was born March 11, 1924 in Gainesboro, Tennessee, United States of America to the late Ludvell and Helen Snodgrass West Langford. On March 30, 2010 our gentle bear completed his journey on earth to begin what I feel is a peaceful adventure. Dad was courageous to the end in his battle with prostate and colon cancer. In addition, his encounter with dementia and diabetes helped his family and close friends to gain an appreciation of the care needs of this population. Hank's gentle touch to all those whose path he encountered will forever be remembered. The family would like to express a heartfelt appreciation to Dr. J. Karvelas and nurse Jennifer at CancerCare Manitoba Prostate Clinic, and Dr. J. Embil and staff at Health Sciences Centre's Vascular Clinic for their care and support. In addition, our sincere gratitude to the entire staff at Health Sciences Centre H7 and H4 for the love, respect, and warmth they provided dad, our family, and friends during his last few weeks here with us. Dad leaves us to join those who have passed before him. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Luster, James Draper, and Willie Brown Langford and his dear baby sister Lucille Langford Shute. Sadly, he was also preceded by his loving nephew Hari Lester McGowan. Hank graduated from Pearl High School Class of 1942. Upon graduation from Pearl he served his country in the Second World War where he was a member of the first black division of the United States Army 'Triple Nickle'. Upon his return to civilian life he pursued studies at Fisk University in 1949 at Nashville, Tennessee. Hank came to Manitoba to explore Canada's northern fishing and hunting. He quickly adapted to life in Canada which included employment on the Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian National Railway. After his service on the railway Hank's employment life included but was not limited to entrepreneurship which included Hank's Trucking and Concrete Business. Years later he joined and retired from the Delta Inn (North Star Inn) as Head Captain. His membership with the Mason, Elks, and Black Shriners left Hank, his family, and friends with years of fond memories. Henry is survived by his daughter Kendra-Ann (Tulsie) Sookdeo of Winnipeg, Manitoba/ Minneapolis, Minnesota, his son Keiron (Suzanne) Seenandan of Windermere, Florida; his granddaughters Salina, Kyra, Bianca, and Alyssa; his grandsons Randall and Nathan; his sister Geraldine Langford McGowan of Nashville, Tennessee; nieces: Carolynn (Samuel) Lavender, Helen (Gerald) Pettaway, Frieda Shute, and Tony Shute; nephews: Andrew (Quita) Shute, Dr. Ian Hari (Megan) McGowan, and Zachary McGowan all of Nashville, Tennessee along with several great-nephews, nieces, and cousins. Hank also leaves behind many dear and loving friends over his 86 years of life. Later in life he was honoured to be a part of the family at the Central Church of Christ where his memorial service will be held at 170 St. Mary's Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada R2H 1H9 on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made in honour of Henry Ford Langford to the Central Church of Christ or CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.
