"Page Pioneer" Kathryne Marie "Kaye" (McCarty) Appleget Tingstrom Johnson entered into the Presence of her Lord Jesus Christ, after a courageous battle with Stage 4 cancer that had metastasized, from Phoenix, Arizona, with all four of her children gathered around her in her home at 1638 E. Indianola Avenue, Avenel Subdivision, on Sunday, November 27, 2016.

There will be a Celebration of Kaye's Life on Saturday, December 17, 2016, 5:00 p.m., at The Way Fellowship Church, 8542 W. Deer Valley Road, Peoria, AZ 85362.

She was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on November 11, 1945, to "Page Pioneers" Louis "L.P." and Nellie Belle (Layer) McCarty, who, with Kaye, helped to birth "America's Last Frontier" -- Page, Arizona. While her dad followed construction as a welder/pipe fitter, Kaye counted that she attended 32 different schools before they arrived in Page, where she graduated from Page High School in 1963. She was a member of the PHS Spanish Club, Drama Club and Speech Class in 1962 and the PHS Majorettes and Twirlers with her baton in 1963.

She enjoyed roller skating and had her own roller skates. After moving from Page to Phoenix, she was a member of a dance troupe who performed at Legend City (an amusement park that existed on the border of Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona, from its opening in 1963 to its closing and demolition in 1983) and Encanto Park (a public park in central Phoenix, Arizona. The park is composed of 222 acres of land consisting of picnic areas, a lagoon, a boat house, swimming pool, nature trail, amusement park, fishing and two golf courses). She attended and taught exercise classes at Paradise Valley, AZ. While attending Phoenix College, she worked at a theater at the concession stand. Later on, she received her Master's Degree, becoming a Surgical Tech at Phoenix Children's Hospital.

At age 19, she was married on August 28, 1965, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Jerry Appleget, age 21, the father of her twin sons, Britt and Lee. In 1971, she was married for ten years to Van Tingstrom, who adopted Britt and Lee, then they had a son together, Lance Tingstrom, and their daughter, Skye Tingstrom, born March 1977. They were divorced in June 1981. Finally, after waiting for him for 15 years, she was married in 2000 to the love of her life, Rick Johnson, until his sudden and unexpected death earlier this year.

Her daughter wrote:
"I always felt so lucky and proud as a kid because my mom was gorgeous AND nice...a rare combination. I feel truly blessed to have been raised by such an exceptional individual. I feel extremely sad that I won't have her insight and knowledge to tap into whenever I want. She was my best friend."

Kaye is survived by her four children: Twin sons, Britt Gabriel and Lee Rehn Appleget Tingstrom; son, Lance (Crystal Dooley) Tingstrom, daughter, Skye Silverwing (Randy) Tingstrom, redheaded granddaughter Erin Tingstrom, all of Phoenix; her brother, Glen Evan McCarty; her two sisters, Esther Louise McCarty and Patricia Ann "Pat" McCarty; Glen's daughters, Connie and Rita McCarty, all of Illinois; her first cousin, Mark McCarty, also a PHS graduate, Class of 1962; Mark's younger sisters, Candace "Candy" (Dan) Cotton and Brenda McCarty; other cousins; and her former husband, Van Clifford Tingstrom. She was predeceased by her parents and two spouses.
