He received a a BA from Atlanta University of Atlanta and a MD (1930) from the University of Michigan.

He was an intern and resident at the City Hospital, which was for African Americans, in St Louis, Missouri. Dr. Yancey was electrocuted to death by a faulty wire on an x ray machine during his residency at City Hospital which many hospitals were aware there were issues with the machine.
