Born January 30, 1941, in Leevale, WV, he was the son of the late Jesse James Raynes (1898-1981) and Ethel H. Morris-Raynes (1911-1989). He was employed by Consolidated Coal Company as a lab tech for over 14 years. He was a life-long mechanic, jack-of-all-trades and an avid trader and collector of many things. While able, he was at the flea markets wheelin' and dealin'; He truly enjoyed carrying on the family traditions of camping and fishing trips and hosting the annual Raynes Family Easter Reunion at the old home place.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Scott Raynes (1961-1969); brothers, Lando Raynes (1923-1971), William "Billy" R. Raynes (1927-1988), and Jesse Lee Raynes (Deceased); sisters, Frankie Irene Rayne-Morris (1921-2005), Iris Irene Morris-Webb (1937-1975), Bertie Raynes-Brown (1939-1988), and Mary Raynes-Southard (Deceased); grandson, Noah Robert Brown (Deceased); and foster brothers, Harlon Toler (Deceased) and Larry Toler (Deceased) and Dale Plumley (Deceased).
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include the love of his life for more than 57 years, Betty Ann Bongalis-Raynes (B. 1941) whom he married on February 15, 1959 in Highcoal, Raleigh County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Raleigh County, WV, 1959, Page 401, Application Date: January 31, 1959); children, Harry James Raynes, Helen Raynes-Hill & Michael Hill, Cynthia Raynes-Vaughn & Steve Vaughn of Abingdon, VA, Connie Raynes-Brown Robert Brown, and Dewey Raynes & Melinda Raynes; brothers, William Raynes, James Raynes and Eugene Raynes; sister, Brenda Taynes-Bainbridge and foster brothers, Joey Toler, Jimmy Toler and Timmy Toler, Tommy Perkins, and many more; thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2016, at 2:00 pm at the Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, WV, with Revs. Gary Maynor and Robert Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Raynes Family Cemetery at Ameagle, WV.
