Robert Dunbar Campbell Long, 85, passed peacefully on October 30, 2016, at Hilton Head Hospital.

Robert was a graduate of Princeton University with a degree in Music. He enlisted in the Army in 1953 and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal.

In 1962, Robert acquired Toy Magic, a toy store located in Charleston, W.Va. For over 20 years, he was very involved in the community sponsoring a midget football team and box car races. He would stay open until the wee-hours on Christmas Eve to assist frantic parents with their "Santa work."

Robert sold the toy store and retired in 1986 to Hilton Head, S.C., to pursue his beloved hobby of golf. He continued his community involvement by patronizing local small businesses and restaurants. He always made friends and encouraged those around him. Robert could be seen riding his bicycle in Hilton Head Plantation, fixing broken mailboxes, or lending his car and handling the auto repair so the neighbor could go to work.

Robert was instrumental in building and reconstructing the pipe organ at St. Matthews Church in Charleston, W.Va. To this day, he has helped churches in ways that only God knows.

He is survived by two remaining sisters, Phoebe Long Rogers of Hilton Head and Margot Long Brauchli of Boulder, Colo., and 22 nieces and nephews.

A Life Celebration is planned for 2 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at The Seabrook, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.

Peter DuBois https://www.facebook.com/events/277703449389022/ played a recital in Hilton Head on Sunday, October 29 at 4:00pm as part of the concert series at First Presbyterian Church.

This was the second of two recitals offered in memory of Robert D. C. Long, formerly of Charleston, WV and Hilton Head, SC, who passed away in October 2016. (the first recital was given in Charleston, WV this past June 18)

Bob was an avid music lover, and especially of the music of J. S. Bach - so, this recital featured a wide variety of Bach's music for organ, including several pieces Bob chose for this program, along with a couple of interesting digressions!
