James E. "Jim" Hendricks is at peace. He died quietly in his sleep at Billings Health and Rehab on Friday morning, Aug. 7, 2009.
Dad, Grandpa, Great-grandpa Jim was born in Ely, Neb., to William and Lucretia (Crete Fauver) Hendricks on March 8, 1917, the youngest of eight children. In 1937, he was married to Kris Gallegos. They later divorced. He married Frances Stenberg in 1946. She preceded him in death in 1983.
Jim was a master baker and mechanic. He worked in bakeries in Denver; Casper, Wyo.; and Billings. As a mechanic/salesperson, he worked for Petroleum Gas & Oil, Kenny Anderson Interstate Standard (later Texaco), Berkley Melody Sales and Co-op Service Center. He retired in 1978. In his later years, Jim became known as the "Cookie Man," baking cookies for doctors' offices, businesses in West Park Plaza, and was especially proud of the 90 dozen cookies he baked for a First Baptist Church bake sale.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife Fran; ex-wife Kris; brothers William, Earl, Eldred; and sisters Ethel, Mabel, Mildred and Edna.

Surviving to honor his memory are his children, Jim (Jaci) Hendricks of Fair Hope, Ala., Charlie (Janie) Hendricks and Ron (Joyce) Hendricks of Billings; grandchildren, Kent (Lisa) Hendricks, Kelly (Bill) Cameron, David (Gloria) Hendricks, Becky (Roger) Nay and Erin (Peter) Reilly; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Smith Downtown Chapel on Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m.
