Karen Lee Poynter Banick, age 65, of Stratford, the beloved wife of William Michael Banick, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Born in Bridgeport on September 15, 1951 to Evelyn Fordell Poynter and the late Dexter Poynter, she made her home and raised a family as a lifelong resident of Stratford, providing a household always open to the care and comfort of an extended circle of family and friends. Karen retired from the Stratford Board of Education after decades as an educator, specializing in programs assisting students with English as a second language, and proudly serving as a union organizer. In retirement, she donated countless hours to the moderation of on-line Health Boards supporting survivors of cancer and addiction. In addition to her beloved husband Bill and her devoted mother Evelyn, she is survived by her loving children, Billy Banick and his wife Colleen of Milford, Connecticut, Dan Banick of Cleveland, Ohio and Kate Banick of Islamorada, Florida, her brother Dan Poynter of Cape Canaveral, Florida, her cherished grandchildren Liam and Caelan Banick, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, December 6, 2016 from 5-8 pm in the Adzima Funeral Home, 50 Paradise Green Place, Stratford. Interment in St. John’s Cemetery of Stratford will be private.
