Born Bernice Spencer in Detroit, Mrs. Schemansky was a gratuate of Southeastern High School in Detroit. She worked for about 20 years at firms including E.F. Hutton and Olde Discount Stockbrokers in Detroit. She retired in 1988 and also was a homemaker, said her son, Lawrence.
A gardener who enjoyed traveling in the Upper Peninsula, she was married to Norbert Schemansky, who from 1948 to 1964 was an Olympic weightlifter who brought home a gold, silver and two bronze medals.
Besides her husband and her son, Mrs. Schemansky is survived by daughters Paula Sperka, Pamela Petro, and Laura Evans; 10 grandchildren; a sister and a brother.
The funeral will be at 11am today at Howe-Peterson Funeral Home, 22546 Michigan Ave, Dearborn. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock
