Mary was born to Patrick and Julia (Sweeny) Conway in Ireland. That is where she married Patrick McGillin, though the date is uncertain. They had three children there before immigrating to New Brunswick, Canada. There, they had nine more children. Two of them, Thomas and Stephen, are buried close to their parents.

Sometime after her husband died in a train accident in 1880, Mary moved to Maine and lived with her daughter until her death. She was brought back to New Brunswick for burial.

Provincial Archives of New Brunswick states that she is buried in this cemetery.
