James Lawrence Mitchell was a veteran and had served as a PVT in the U.S. Marine Corps. Indigent at the time of his death, he was buried with military honors on June 23, 2001 through the Homeless Veterans Burial Program.
Thanks to Missing in America Project for the above information and to the Homless Veterans Burial Program.

James married Precilla Pointer and had two children; Sharon Kay and James Lawrence Jr. James' loved to drink and that is where his life went astray. He was drinking and driving and hit a car. there was a Nurse standing between her car and another. She was killed instantly. James was sent to Prison. 1 year and 1 day at Kilby Prison in Wetompka, AL, after that, James was never the same. Each time he got out of Prison, he did something to get sent back. It became a lifestyle for him. The last time any of the family heard from him was in 1985 when he was being released from Prison in Jean,Nevada. His sister died the following year, in 1986, his Mother died in 1987, a brother in 1991, his son died in 2001 and he couldn't be found.
It is so sad to find that he was Indigent at the time of his death. Thank you to the Homless Veterans Burial Program for laying him to rest. Rest in Peace.......
