Putnam County Man Drowns In Greenbrier
ALDERSON — A Putnam County man drowned yesterday in the Greenbrier River about three miles from this Monroe
County town, authorities said.
The victim was identified as Paul Massey, 32, of Poca, who was on a camping trip in the Alderson area with his wife and another family, police said.
Police said Massey was fishing, wading in the stream, when he lost his balance and slipped into water 15 feet deep.
The drowning occurred about 6:30 p.m. and the body was recovered by Tri-County firemen more than an hour later.
He was an employe of Service Wholesale Inc. at Culloden and a veteran of the Korean War. A resident of Poca for six years. Mr. Massey was a native of Crown Hill.
