Roger Lee Abbott was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Vietnam conflict.


FARMINGTON, MO: Roger Lee Abbott, age 67, of Farmington, Missouri, was carried home by Jesus on December 6, 2016, surrounded by his family singing "Jesus, There is Something About that Name". Roger was born January 26, 1949, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to the late Harold and Dorothy (nee Halter) Abbott.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Abbott and sister, Gwendolyn (Abbott) Pinkston.


Survivors include his loving wife of 44 ½ years, Debra (nee Buris) Abbott; daughter, Tara and son in law Louis Nash; god daughters, Rachel (Bill) Eckles and Treva (Brian) Dodrill; god-grandchildren, Dylan and Austin Eckles, and Ava Dodrill all of Kansas City, Missouri; mother in law, Margaret Burris; his canines Spud and Sallysue; and many other special friends and relatives.


Roger was an avid bass fisherman with his daughter Tara by traveling to Table Rock Lake each year to join fishing guide Capt. Rick LaPoint for a fun time catching bass. He loved to deer and squirrel hunt also.

Roger was a charter member of Open Arms Full Gospel Church in Desloge, Missouri. He loved testifying to other people about the miracles God had performed in his life. He was a loving, kind, giving, caring, man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.


Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in 1969 – 1971 having served in Korea during the Vietnam era war where he was exposed to Agent Orange. He was a member of Farmington VFW Post 5896 and American Legion Post 0416. Roger was a retired Chrysler employee and a local 136 UAW member.


Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016, at the Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Horton-Wampler Chapel with Rev. Louis Nash officiating assisted by Tara Nash.


Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Leadington, Missouri, with military honors.


A special thank you is given to Preferred Hospice and Dr. Brett Dickinson. Memorials may be made to Preferred Hospice, American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Huckstep Center.
