Floyd W. Adams, 76, of 710 Elm Street, Manistee, died Monday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Born Sept. 7, 1922, in Beulah, he was the son of Cyrus C. and Ella (Fitz) Adams. He was a graduate of Benzie High School Class of 1941. On Nov. 20, 1948, in Benzonia, he married Margaret L. Earle.
Floyd served in the U.S. Army during World War II and fought in Sicily, Naples, Rome and Southern France. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star.
Floyd had been the director of the Manistee County Social Services for 38 years, retiring on April 1, 1998. He also served as the Director of the Manistee County Medical Care Facility for several years. He farmed and operated his own fruit orchard. Floyd was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Bottrells Sales & Service bowling team in the Elks Bowling League. Memberships also included the United Methodist Church of Manistee, Veterans of Foreign Wars Walsh Post #4499, Disabled American Veterans. Salt City Chapter #43, American Legion Post #10, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #250 and the Muzzle Loaders Club, all of Manistee.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Margaret, on Jan. 4, 1998.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Thomas Maher officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
