It is known, from the personal Bible record of Ella E. Knowles Hagerty Wilson, wife of Maggie's youngest brother Ben (grandparent, along with Ella, of the poster of this memorial and its biography), that Maggie died on 11 February 1904. Where she was buried is, however, a mystery. It is believed that she does not have a surviving marked grave anywhere. (It's possible that she's buried in Bethel Cemetery, Lewes, Sussex Co., Delaware, with her parents, as her father's tombstone at that location mentions "AND HIS FAMILY" and is surrounded by a number of unmarked spaces, implying presence of additional family graves there.) Her final known appearance in a record during her lifetime is in the 1900 Census, at which time she was residing in the Indian River Hundred portion of Sussex Co. Passed down family oral history, recalled by descendants of her line, tells that she is said to have died the result of pneumonia and childbirth.

Maggie was a child of Thomas J., Sr. and Sarah A. "Sally" (nee Palmer) Wilson. The Wilsons and Palmers of in and near Lewes, Sussex Co. were very closely allied area families that the members of historically and continuingly lived in close proximity to one another, both rurally and in town, and there were multiple instances of intermarriage between them. Maggie's husband James' brother Peter was the husband of Sally Palmer Wilson's sister Frances. Thus Maggie and her maternal blood aunt Frances were, via their marriages, also sisters-in-law. Meanwhile, also James' sister Eliza (sister-in-law of the Frances just mentioned) was married to a Palmer who was one of Maggie's relatives of the same geographical territory. In addition, Maggie's brother Arthur was married to one of his and Maggie's Palmer Family 2nd cousins. Also older half-sister Emma's first husband was a local Palmer.

Maggie was the wife of James V. Wilson, whom she wed circa 23 January 1883, and who near certainly was her cousin of some degree. (Likewise James' parents - his mother having been nee Wilson - were no doubt each other's Wilson cousin.)

Reason exists to believe that Maggie may have briefly been married to a Mr. Russell prior to her marriage to James. To date, nothing has been found to substantiate or confirm a Russell marriage. When Maggie and James wed in 1883, their marriage bond presented her last name at the time as currently being Wilson.

Her and James' surviving children, as of June 1907, were Joseph, Albert, Eva, Ella, Belle, Willard, Thomas, William, and Carrie. (The mentioned names are per the record filed upon the opening of Orphans' Court proceedings regarding her father Thomas' intestate estate in Lewes, Sussex Co. In that record Maggie's surviving children, heirs by law, were named.)

At the time of the 1900 Census (household enumerated on June 1), it was indicated that Maggie had borne a total of twelve children, of which nine were still living at the time. Maggie and James' 1900 Census household included the following children: Joseph (born August 1884), Albert (born July 1886), Eva (born October 1887), George W. (born May 1891), Charity B. (born August 1893), Lizzie E. (born July 1894), Ellis H. (born April 1896), Thomas J. (born August 1898), and James (born March 1900). [Regarding the 1900 Census, birth months and years were often recorded whatever extent of inaccurately, either partially or fully. It therefore may be that some of the children, as well as Maggie and husband James, were actually born in other than the precise month and/or year indicated.]

Gravesite Details

Per the 1870 and 1880 Censuses, when Maggie was recorded as being ages 4 years and 14 years, respectively, her birth year most credibly calculates to 1866. (The 1900 Census purports that she was born in March 1864.)
