Donald Abraham, 90, of New Ulm died Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 17, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New Ulm with Monsignor Douglas Grams celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in the New Ulm Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be 4 – 7 PM Friday and 7:30 – 10 AM Saturday at the Minnesota Valley Funeral Home SOUTH CHAPEL in New Ulm.

He is survived by sons, Robert (Jill Beske) of Mankato and James (Robin) of Eden Prairie; grandchildren, Andrew Abraham of Lincoln Nebraska and Elizabeth Engelland (Ben) of Appleton Wisconsin; a sister in law, Marie Grunert of New Ulm; brother in law, Bruce Simmons of Princeton, Illinois; nephews, Charles Cammack (Sally) of Atlanta Georgia and John Lenihan (Rosie) of Victoria Texas.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Katherine; wife Ruth; sisters Hildegard (Cammack) and Alice (Lenihan) and infant brother James.

Donald was born on November 5, 1926, to German immigrant Carl Martin Abraham and wife Katherine (Neuwirth). A lifelong New Ulm resident, he was raised in Goosetown. He spent 55 years with Hesse and Abraham Trucking (later New Ulm Transfer), the only job in his adult life.

Donald married Ruth Ann Koop in 1950 and they raised two sons Robert and James. Don was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Mary’s Church, New Ulm Volunteer Fire Department and the New Ulm Police Auxiliary. He retired from the Fire Department as the First Assistant Chief with 20 years of service.

Donald loved woodworking, fishing, hunting and golfing. He always had a dog with him….just for advice.
