He grew up as a devout Catholic during the Great Depression. After graduating from Chaminade High School (ultimately transferring to Sewanhaka (Floral Park) for Basketball) in '45, he enlisted in the Navy aboard the USS-Waccamaw AO-109. As an SK (Store Keeper), he provided ammunition and supply to his fellow shipmates.
It was upon the recommendation of his basketball coach, Mr. Edward Carter, that George relocated to eastern Kansas; but, rather than persevere in his former athleticism, he began to find new avenues of success. While in attendance at the Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, he became involved in numerous organizations: Tau Kappa Epsilon, Business Manager of 'The Bulletin,' and Officer of the Senior Class of '52. He also met his future wife, Ms. Jo Anna Riegle, to whom he would wed upon graduation. Shortly afterwards, George took her back to New York to establish their lives on central Long Island in a small hamlet recently founded as 'Old Bethpage.'
George served as the Director of Personnel Services at the company headquarters for L.I.L.C.O. in Hicksville, New York, from '52-'92, which electrically powered both Nassau & Suffolk counties (as well as the Rockaways) until its demise after his retirement.
