After the war Sparky returned home to Beatrice Nebraska, where he married Betty Jean Fralin. He attended the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles California with an interest in Automotive design and graduated in 1951. He was hired by General Motors and made significant contributions to a number of automobile designs, especially the first Corvettes.
After retiring from the automotive industry Sparky turned to documenting the history of the 460th Bomb Group, and, with the help of his wife, Betty, wrote a comprehensive book covering the subject.
In 2009 Sparky was inducted into the Corvette Hall of Fame because of his significant design contributions to the first Corvettes.
Duane Lloyd "Sparky" Bohnstedt was a loving and loyal father and husband. Sparky and Betty are survived by their loving daughter, Kara.
