Jimmy Dale Akins, 84, of Enigma passed into his eternal resting place on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at his residence. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Enigma Baptist Church with the Rev. Pete Jones and the Rev. Steve Hand officiating. Mr. Akins will be laid to rest at Turner Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Enigma.

Born May 13, 1932 in Enigma, Mr. Akins was the son of the late Roy Akins and Audrey Sydelle Akins. He was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lonnie and Elsie Yawn; a son-in-law Joey Moore; a brother, Charles “Bo” Akins; and a sister, Joyce Register.

He graduated from Enigma High School in 1949 as Valedictorian. He was a retired carpenter and was very dedicated and took great pride in doing a perfect job on all his projects. He was a faithful member and participant at Enigma Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. In 2012, the Senior Adult Sunday School class was named in his honor, because of his dedication and support to his Church and Sunday School Class and his Lord. He was also a member the the Enigma Men’s Club and he loved and adored his grandchildren.

Mr. Akins is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carolyn; one son; two daughters and a son-in-law; one brother; two sisters; four grandchildren and their spouses; two great-grandchildren; and his special care-giver.
