Octavia Miles was age 6 in the 1860 Fisher, Fremont, Iowa census with Noah Miles, 44, and Rosanna, 34. Octavia was listed with 8 siblings. Reuben was 19; Rachel, 16; (Noah) Thomas, 13; Sarah, 11; Benjamin, 10; Henry, 5; (Oliver) Buchanan, 3; & Wilber, 2.

The 1895 Sherman Township, Leavenworth County, Kansas state census records Edgar Bond as age 48 and Octavia, 41. Ira was age 18, born in Missouri; "Olly," a girl, 12, born in Ohio; Charles, 11, born in Ohio; & Viola, 5, born in Kansas.

Both the 1900 and 1910 censuses show Octavia as the mother of 9 children, with 4 living. She had been married for 30 years in 1900.

Octavia was with her husband, Edgar Bond, in the 1895, 1900, 1905, 1910, & 1915 Leavenworth County, Kansas census reports. Her husband, Ed or Edgar was also recorded in the 1920 federal and the 1925 state census in Leavenworth County. He was recorded as age 78 in 1925, with his daughter, Viola. However, he is not listed in the Mount Sidney Cemetery records with his wife and several family members.

Viola Bond, (daughter of Edgar Bond and Octavia Miles) married M. J. (Monte) Hawk in September of 1925 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. (marriage index) They are recorded together in Saratogo County, New York in the 1930 and 1940 censuses. Monte died in 1953 and Octavia died in 1963. (New York death index)

Octavia's father, Noah Miles, served during the Civil War from Missouri in the 4th State Militia Infantry. He enlisted at St. Joseph, Missouri in 1862. His admittance record to the Leavenworth soldiers home in 1889 also records the 170th State Militia Home Guards. The soldiers home record lists Rosanna Miles, his wife, of E. Leavenworth, Platte County, Missouri as his nearest relative. He was recorded as a shoe maker.

Noah Miles married Rosanah Durfey in 1843 in Adams County, Illinois. (IL marriage indexes) Their daughter, Rachel, age 6 in 1850, was born in Illinois. They resided in Grundy County, Missouri in 1850 and Fremont County, Iowa in 1860. This family was in Nemaha County, Nebraska in 1870 and Andrew County, Missouri in 1880. The 1885 Iowa state census records them in Mills County. Noah Miles, age 78, born in Ohio, was recorded with his wife in the 1895 Linwood, Leavenworth, Kansas state census. He had also lived in Utah. Several census reports list him as a shoe maker. Census reports show Noah's birth place as Ohio and Rosanna's birthplace as New York. Their graves have not been found.
