William Edward was born in Dallas, Texas, to the late Dr. Alvey A. and Mineola Loe Taylor. He graduated from Adamson High School in Dallas in 1950. Ed attended Baylor University in Waco, and went on to earn his DDS from Baylor Dental School in 1958. He practiced General Dentistry in Marshall, Texas, until he began an orthodontic residency in Longview, Texas. In 1965 he moved to Waco and established his orthodontic practice on Austin Ave., where he practiced through 2006.

He was married to Sherry Faye Kennedy of Fort Worth in 1956 and they had two children, Jackie and Bryan. In 1994 he married Jayne Batey. Ed enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing his entire life and his other passion was ranching. He was a member of numerous Dental and Orthodontic organizations and Lakewood Christian Church as well.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sherry; and an infant daughter, Janet Leigh.

Survivors include wife, Jayne, of Bruceville; daughter, Jackie Hawkins and husband, Andy, of Bruceville; son, Dr. Bryan Taylor and wife, Rene, of Lorena; grandchildren, Katy Hawkins Imgrund and husband, Alex, of Columbia, S.C., Libby Hawkins, of College Station, Curt and Maggie Hawkins, of Bruceville, Madison and Sydney Taylor, of Lorena, and Jack and Lily Kleiderlein, of Charlotte, N.C.; step-son, Brantz Batey, of Arlington; step-daughter, Erin Kleiderlein and husband, Rob, of Charlotte, N.C.; brother, Rob Taylor and wife, Jackie, of Terrell;
