At a very young age, Peggy was stricken with polio and became paralyzed. She did overcome the illness and learned to walk again. At age ten, Peggy's father died while farming the fields of the family's home place. Shortly thereafter, Peggy's mother suffered a nervous breakdown and was institutionalized, leaving Peggy to move in with which ever sister could take her. Eventually, she settled with sister Ruth in Nashville, TN.
Peggy met Ferest Lawson, three years older than herself, in Nashville and married July 29, 1952 at the age of thirteen. Peggy and Ferest became the parents of five sons, from July of 1953 to August of 1960. After raising her sons to adulthood, Peggy took on the role of mother again in 1978 to raise one of her grandsons from infancy.
Peggy was a strong and determined woman who faced adversity head on. The loss of her second born son, Michael, was her toughest pain to endure, up to 1995. Peggy's inner strength surfaced, yet again, when she fought her battle with cancer in 2008. She survived her health crisis and continued on life's journey.
On November 5, 2016 Peggy's battles ended from complications of heart surgery.
Peggy was a wonderful mother and wife. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Ferest; sons, Stanley, Mark, Timmie, David and Christopher. Peggy is dearly missed by all who loved and still love her.
