Elmer Eugene Jordan (Age 87) Of Coeur d'Alene, ID died January 7, 2007 at home. He was born June 27, 1919 in Clinton, Iowa to Albert F. and Margaret (Ahartvigsen) Jordan. He grew up in Bonners Ferry, ID and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1938 where he was student body president. Elmer played football, basketball and tennis, winning the state doubles title his senior year. He received a scholarship to attend the University of Idaho and played tennis and basketball. He graduated in 1942 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. After graduation Elmer coached at Sandpoint High School, worked at a private boys camp in Wisconsin, and then coached and taught health at a Southern Illinois school. While there he met Virginia Lee Johnson and they were married on June 2, 1945 in West Frankfort, Illinois. They moved to Bonners Ferry for a brief time and then came to Coeur d'Alene where Elmer began his Viking coaching career. Elmer was head football coach for the first East-West All Star football game played in Boise in 1947. He coached the 2nd annual National All Star basketball game played in Kentucky in 1949, and was coach and athletic director for the Coeur d'Alene High School Vikings for 23 years. During that time he won numerous football and basketball championships, winning the state basketball championship in 1949 and 1963. During the summers Elmer operated a boys camp at Arrow Point. He eventually purchased the land at Arrow Point and developed it into a family resort where he built cottages, a marina, a restaurant and bar. After retiring from coaching in 1968 Elmer obtained his real estate license and sold the resort. He then embarked on a second career in the real estate business. Elmer eventually opened Jordan Company Real Estate with his son, Brad Jordan. That company later became GMAC Real Estate Northwest. Elmer had a very successful real estate career for over 35 years. He continued to work five days a week until age 85, and he remained as a consultant to the company until last year. Elmer was past president and member of the Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club for 40 years, a past board member of the Coeur d'Alene Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Coeur d'Alene Athletic Round Table, an avid golfer and 20 year member of the Hayden Lake Country Club where he also served on the board for three years, a member of the Coeur d'Alene Elks Lodge for 40 years, and past president of the Idaho Coach's Association. Elmer was selected to the Idaho Hall of Fame, the Idaho High School Activities Hall of Fame, and the Inland Empire and Greater Spokane Sports Association Hall of Fame. He was named coach of the year in 1963, but his greatest honor was to have the Coeur d'Alene High School basketball gymnasium named "Elmer Jordon Court" in 2001. Elmer loved spending time with his family and watching his two granddaughters grow. Others who have known Elmer feel fortunate to have had him in their lives as well. He was a man of honesty and integrity. He taught so many that they could accomplish anything with hard work and determination. Elmer was a man of his word and a figure of success and accomplishment. He will always be an inspiration and part of the many lives he has touched. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia in 2005, and his brothers, Henry Jordan and Leo Jordan. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Debi Jordan of Coeur d'Alene, ID; his granddaughters, KaitlynJordan and Alexis Jordan of Coeur d'Alene, ID; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Art Neumayer of Orofino, ID; his nephews, Tim Neumayer of Orofino, ID, Randy Jordan and Rick Jordan of Boise, ID; and his niece, Lynn McDonald of Boise, ID.
