Mary Jane Aalders (Macaluso), age 89, took her last breath on Earth on December 14, 2016, with her son by her side, after a courageous battle with cancer and breathed her first breath of Heaven in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior.

She is now with her beloved husband, C. Jack Aalders whom she lost 44 years ago and missed every day of her life. No stranger to losing someone close to her as she lost her mother, Mary Macaluso when she was only five years old and her father, Guiseppe Macaluso whom she cared for until his death and her husband after only 12 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Josephine and Leonard Coniglio, brother and sister-in-law, Dominic and Mae Macaluso, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerard and Theresa Toorenaar, brotherin-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Cynthia Veenstra, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernice and John Kuiper, brothers-in-law, Benjamin and William Aalders, niece and nephew, Rose and Carl Ditta, nephew, Charles Coniglio, niece and nephew, Connie and Luke Timmerman, niece and nephew, Annette and Don Heidema, nephews, Tom Gilligan and Danny Dowe.

She is survived by and will be loving remembered and deeply missed by her son, Robert, her nieces and nephews, Sam and Grace Macaluso, Joe and Liz Macaluso, Jospehine (Dolly) Coniglio, John and Delores Kuiper, Phil and Norma Kuiper, Mary Gilligan, Ginny Veenstra Dowe, Muriel (Penny) Omarzu, Kathy and Wallace Nelson, Jackie Toorenaar, Cynthia and Paul Savignac, her godchild, Annmarie Overeiner, her great niece, Marjorie Grimm, several great and great great nieces and nephews, very special friend, Nan Wetherbee, special friend, Mimi Madden, and her instructor and friends at the "Y" aquatics classes and good friend, Patricia Tawney.

As a single woman, Mary Jane began work at Simplicity Pattern Company and later worked at Kelvinator where she met and married her husband. She resigned to raise her only son, only to lose her husband and re-enter the work force starting at Muir Drugs, followed by Montgomery Ward and later for 26 years at Steelcase where she was hired at age 50 and worked until her retirement at 76. She credited Steelcase for taking a chance on her as a later in life worker and worked hard for them taking few vacations and working for them through various injuries. She enjoyed many friendships at Steelcase and did not wish to retire, but realized that it was time.

A small woman at 4'10", she was a feisty Sicilian whose heritage was important to her. She was a fighter with a large, kind heart for family and friends. Her belief in God and her Catholic religion was the most important part of her life. She said the rosary daily and (during her marriage) attended weekday Mass, was involved with her son's Catholic grade school by volunteering at school and at various functions and was in charge of the hot dog sales. She volunteered at bingo at Catholic Central High School while her son attended high school. Her passions in later years were reading autobiographies and Danielle Steel books and attending aquatic classes at East Hills and the "Y".

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated December 19 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft SE, in Caledonia. Burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or St. Paul the Apostle Daniel Donnelly fund.
