Leora was born in Wyoming to Russell McKinley and Edith Marlene (Grimes) Moore. At the age of 19 she married Jack Whitney Spence on January 4, 1936 in Alameda, California. They had two children, a daughter and son; they settled in Denver, Colorado. Clara died at the age of 66 and was survived by her husband Jack and their children.
