She was born to Max Anton and Julian Marie Ochs Roy. Mrs. Brandes, a native Houstonian, attended Houston's Montrose Elementary, Lanier Junior High, and San Jacinto High schools prior to graduating from Rice University. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Brandes, parents, brother, Max F. Roy and an aunt, Bertha E. Roy. She is survived by sons, Robert R. Brandes and William A. Brandes, a daughter, Beverly A. Brandes; and two grandchildren, Ann Marie Brandes and William A. Brandes, Jr. and his wife, Becky. Mrs. Brandes' ancestors were among Houston's earliest pioneer families. And in recognition of her family's Houston heritage, Maxroy St., Maxie, Roy Circle and Roy St. were named in their honor. She loved gardening and was particularly proud of her African Violets and Azaleas. Her Azaleas were among the prettiest in the city and once featured on the Houston Chronicle's front page during a past Azalea Trail week. And to those of you who knew her, we were blessed by her wit, tolerance (of her children and some of you), and her home was always open to all. The family would like to express their gratitude to Annie Mae Wolsey and Sherrie Prejean for the constant devotion and friendship to their Mother and Grandmother.
