LOFGREN John A., age 73, of Lynn, died on Saturday, December 10, 2016, at Mass General Hospital as the result of injuries sustained by being struck by a car while leaving morning Mass in Swampscott. He was born on September 29, 1943 in Boston, the son of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Toner) Lofgren. He was raised and educated in Jamaica Plain and graduated from Jamaica Plain High School. He attended the Congregation of The Sacred Heart Seminary in Wareham for 3 years. John's passion in life was helping people. He was very active with the AIDS action committee in the 1980's. He had worked as a prison guard and counselor. He was a champion for social justice. He was also very active trying to help people and families struggling with the opioid crisis. He was proud to be a member of the Teamsters Local 25 for many years, working as a truck driver for the food service industry. John loved spending time outside.
He loved to be outside mowing his lawn, or going for a nice long walk in the woods with his friends.
He had a "green thumb", and loved tending to his vegetable garden. He was also an excellent cook, who had a long-standing open invitation to friends, to join him for Sunday supper. He rarely turned down an opportunity to spend time in Boston "exploring". John is survived by his partner, Luis Rios of Lynn. He also leaves nine loving siblings-many beloved nieces and nephews. Two of his siblings passed away before him: Robert A. Lofgren and Elizabeth A. LeCount of Holbrook.

Family and friends are invited to attend John's visitation on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 1:00 P.M. 5:00 P.M. at Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple Street, LYNN, MA 01904.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Pius V Church, 215 Maple Street, Lynn.
