Selma Emma Wanda King was born Aug. 13, 1915, in Watertown, Neb., to Adolph and Alma Schukar. She died Dec. 17, 2016, at 101 years old.

Her family moved in 1917 to Sheridan, Ore. She spent her school years in Sheridan and graduated as salutatorian.

Selma worked in Hillsboro after graduating and met and married Walter D. "Bud" King on May 9, 1936 in Vancouver, Wash.

They moved several times in Oregon following lumber mill jobs, having and raising five children during that time.

Selma and Bud gave their family the "Walton-style life," complete with live-in grandparents. Growing and preserving food, building several houses, sewing clothing, helping out neighbors and family and providing a joyous fun-filled life.

Selma and Bud were married for 68 years, loved each other dearly and danced like "magic in motion." After Bud retired, they enjoyed traveling, driving to Alaska and Myrtle Beach, S.C., were two of the highlights in their travels.

Moving to Dora in 1957, Selma became the Dora School cook. She soon learned the food likes and dislikes of the students and fed them accordingly, spoiling them rotten.
