Private graveside services will be at National Cemetery, Arsenla Island, with military rites performed by American Legion Post 569/200 and VFW 1303. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan, is handling arrangements.
Mr. Brasmer was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Rock Island, the son of John and Albertha Carrington Brasmer. He married Nettie DeYoung, Dec. 30, 1944, in Oakland, Calif. She died Nov. 28, 2002.
He worked at the former Asplund Tree Service as foreman for many years before retiring in 1988. In earlier years, he worked at the former International Harvester, Farmall Works, Rock Island. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 and then again from 1954 to 1971. He served during World War II and the Vietnam War.
Bert was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening along with traveling with his late wife, Nettie.
He is survived by his children and spouses, Joyce and Milton Cross, Gladwin, Mich., John "Butch" and Gloria Brasmer, Milan, Jan and Richard Pearson, Carbondale, Ill., Penny and Chester Manary, Percy, Ill., Brenda and Tim Maess, Rock Island, and Cathy and Tom VanThournout, Aledo; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Walter and Marion Brasmer, Coyne Center; brother-in-law, Raymond DeYoung, Milan; several nieces and nephews; along with his dog, Lady, his faithfull companion. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren.
