John W. Waverka, Sr., 59 of 248 West Maple Ave., Hershey, died Friday, May 9, 1986 in the M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
He was the husband of Mary Helen Morrow Waverka. Born in Luzerne, he was the son of Agnes Moreck Waverka and the late Charles Waverka. He was security director of Dauphin County, a Navy veteran of World War II and a former Dauphin County detective. He was a retired Pennsylvania State Policeman with [almost] 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Hershey; the Fraternal Order of Police, Harrisburg Lodge; Retired State Policeman's Association of Pennsylvania; County Detectives Association of Pennsylvania; Hershey Italian Lodge and Hershey American Legion. He was a member and past grand knight of the Hershey Council, Knights of Columbus, and a former district deputy of District 43, Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: sons 1st Lt. James John Waverka, stationed in Giessen, West Germany; Michael Andrew and David Charles Waverka, both at home; and Seaman John Wencel Waverka, Jr., Cape May New Jersey; a daughter, Linda Kathryn Waverka, at home; his mother Agnes Waverka, Luzerne; a brother, Edward Waverka, Luzerne; sisters, Ann Haggerty, Reading, and Rosemary Long, Denver, Co; and one grandson.
Services were held Monday, May 12, at Saint Joan of Arc Church, with father John Hoke in charge. Internment was in Hershey Cemetery.
